Role description

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating various CNC centre lathes for the repair and maintenance of various glass making mould components. They will be responsible for checking their own work and adhering to the company’s health and safety and working procedures.

Essential Requirements:
  • Must be a time served apprentice trained engineer with a recognised qualification in mechanical engineering (machining).
  • Must be health and safety focused.
  • Must have a good understanding of Fanuc and or Haas controls.
  • Have a good level of knowledge regarding lathe tooling and cutting techniques. (e.g. external, boring, grooving).
  • Experience machining metals such as Cast Iron and Nickle.
  • Be able to read and understand technical engineering drawings.
  • To be able to demonstrate the ability to work to tight tolerances (e.g. +-0.03mm)
  • Must be able to independently work on their own and posses’ good problem-solving skills.
  • Must be competent in setting and altering machine offsets.
  • A good understanding of CNC programs (G and M codes).
  • Must be able to use and read precision measuring equipment such as micrometres.
  • Be able to carry out basic maintenance of the CNC lathe such as slide oil and coolant.
  • Must be a well-organized individual with a keen eye for detail and stock control.
  • Demonstrate a good attitude towards learning and flexible working.
  • Must be confident work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Desired skills / qualifications:
  • CNC programming (Fanuc/Haas/Mori Seiki).
  • Previous experience within the glass manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in fitting techniques (bench work such as polishing, filling and griding)
  • Experience in spray welding (powder welding)
  • Manual turning/milling experience.
  • Knowledge of 5’s, SMED and 6 Sigma.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Salary based on Grade 6 of the harmonised pay scales. Salary min £33,840 - £37,806 max. Dependant on shift pattern

  • Dependant on experience – shift patterns Days, Days/Afters, Extended days. Condensed working where appropriate.
