<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Role Description:

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Under the direction of the Operations Team Leader, and/or general supervision is responsible for safe and efficient manufacturing of food packaging through machine operations and maintenance of equipment in a manner that provides for a sound quality product.  This flex position will function as a Utility Operator I or a Mechanic Operator depending upon business needs and will receive the pay rate of the job assigned.

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Key Responsibilities:

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Adhere to quality standards and procedures, supporting the positive release program and promoting quality within the department.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Comply with safety policies and practices and participate in the plant Safety Program.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Participates, collaborates and complies with all company maintenance programs and practices.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Maintain supply of cans through safe operation of can-making equipment, palletizing and de-palletizing, and sorting / isolation of defective product.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide accurate reporting of safety, production, efficiency, quality and potential problem areas to operate the department in an efficient and productive manner.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Oversee all critical points of the process to ensure quality standards are met.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Maintain a safe work environment for self and all team members and equipment through daily maintenance, 5S, and housekeeping activities.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work with team members to make recommendations for process improvements.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Troubleshoot and analyze equipment problems.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Make all necessary adjustments/repairs to equipment to maintain all safety, quality and productivity goals.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Perform various jobs of responsibility on a rotational basis.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assist with new equipment installation, equipment overhauls and other projects as required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assist in coaching, mentoring, and job training of Utility I Operator(s)
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Support LSS (Lean Six Sigma) & TPM teams that will drive out waste and reduce operation costs.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Shall understand the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principle and BRC Food Safety Standard.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assist in trial runs, defective product isolating/sorting and machine breakdowns.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Assist with warehousing finished product and palletize areas.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Forklift operations as required.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Provide relief to personnel as necessary
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Equipment Maintenance – performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Critical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to read, write and interpret written instructions; including, but not limited to: technical manuals, blue prints, sketches, procedures, etc.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Able to use small hand tools and measuring devices.
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Intermediate math skills with the ability to divide in all units of measurement, compute rate, ratio and percent
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to safely and efficiently operate a forklift
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Proficient computer skills
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to work with all levels of personnel
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Demonstrated ability to motivate others with a positive “can do” attitude and maintain a safe, cohesive work environment
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">High School Diploma or GED
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Five years of mechanical / electrical experience
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Three years of experience in high volume manufacturing
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Professional certificate/license in industrial or mechanical skills (preferred)
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Work experience in metal manufacturing (preferred)
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Forklift certification (preferred)
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to work all shifts including 8 or 12-hour shifts, daylight and off-shifts as well as weekends, holidays and overtime
  • <span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">Ability to progress to “Mechanic A” status within a three-year period and maintain

<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif">The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud outside of the office area.  Employees must wear hearing protection and all other assigned Personal Protective Equipment.  Temperature can range from extreme cold (<40 degrees) to extreme heat (>90 degrees).  The atmosphere contains fumes, dust and odors.
