Purpose of the Job

The Engineering Project Manager is the facilitator of key technology and customer initiatives, with full accountability for all aspects of project management.  Many of these initiatives involve major capital investment up to several million dollars in the Ardagh Metal Food and Specialty North America manufacturing facilities as well as Ardagh customer related projects and commercial supply transitions.  This individual must view projects not only from a technical perspective but also with customer, financial, operational and sales objectives in mind. The primary area of focus will be planning and executing customer related technical projects and commercial supply transitions. In addition to these, the development and execution of Ardagh operation focused initiatives, improvements, workforce skills development, and best practice initiatives.

 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Collaborates closely with project teams or sector leadership to develop project business case and scope. Project proposals include scope of work, timelines, labor requirements, costs and economic return on investment.
  • Proposes and reviews design concepts and new technology.
  • Prepare and present detailed financial analysis including project budgets, ROI analysis and forecasts. 
  • Prepare, submit and support project related Capital Appropriation Requests (CARs)
  • Prepare and execute Special Manufacturing Authorizations to support project initiatives.
  • Understand and develop process routing information required to support manufacturing enterprise system requirements (SAP)
  • Lead customer related projects, product qualifications and commercial supply transitions across all levels and functional groups within Ardagh and through the customer’s organization by coordinating engineering, sales, product development, operations, supply chain and quality resources on customer related projects, trials, commissioning of new products or customer supply transitions.
  • Frequently communicates status and action items of projects in a variety of forums.
  • Generates vendor Scope of Supply documents and works closely with Purchasing Manager in negotiating capital purchases. 
  • Manage and forecast of associated project capital spending compared to budgeted costs.
  • Presents multiple solutions when presenting project options.
  • Manage project details and status through the use of Microsoft Project and other internal project management and tracking tools. 
  • Lead implementation, start-up and commissioning of new technology, equipment and manufacturing processes within Ardagh facilities.
  • Manages, participates in, and plans technical training programs.
  • Develop, justify and execute operational and customer improvements projects.
  • Support and drive best practice initiatives across operations

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Background in continuous manufacturing environment.  Particular expertise in 2-piece DWI/DRD and 3-peice welded canmaking, EZO and SAN endmaking is a plus.
  • 10+ years of manufacturing project management experience
  • Experience in managing multiple, large capital projects as well as smaller continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience in food processing technologies, including thermal processing equipment
  • Minimum B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
  • Working knowledge of project management software
  • Basic ACAD skills
  • Strong analytical, budgeting and cost analysis skills
  • Team-oriented, with a cooperative, facilitative style
  • Strong service-orientation, with proven experience in supporting both internal and external customers
  • Ambitious and career focused with an interest in growing within Ardagh
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven focus on cost control
  • Knowledge of adult learning and training techniques
  • Must be able to travel to plant and customer locations up to 75% of work time
