BEC Shift Supervisor

Barnsley Plant

Role description

Control and monitor the BEC department to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive operation across all decoration processes. The primary responsibility is to maintain a safe working environment for all employees and contractors, while achieving high quality standards through effective use of labour and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead with Safety First: Take full ownership for the safety performance of the BEC department. Ensure that all activities are carried out safely, that risks are identified and mitigated, and that all team members understand and comply with Company Health and Safety Procedures.
  • Continuously monitor and improve housekeeping standards in line with Company Hygiene Rules.
  • Monitor the decoration processes to ensure that the correct products, methods and specifications are followed safely and effectively.
  • Respond effectively to employee queries and establish strong communication between the shop floor, shift management, and HR, to maintain a well-informed and motivated team.
  • Resolve personnel issues where possible, or escalate appropriately, to maintain a safe, efficient, and cohesive team.
  • Take responsibility for the training, safety awareness, and development of direct reports.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, engineering, planning, quality, and other supervisory teams to ensure safe, coordinated operations.

Required skills / qualifications:
  • Proven ability to recognise and respond to safety, production, and quality issues in BEC operations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to production improvements, process reliability, and minimising defects through safe working practices.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, problem-solving skills, and time management.
  • Ability to organise and deploy shift personnel efficiently and safely.
  • Excellent communication skills, with understanding of Company Quality Plans, Procedures, and defect terminology.
  • Previous experience supervising a team, with the ability to promote and sustain a strong safety culture.

  • Salary based on Grade 9 of the harmonised pay scales. Salary min £40,000 - £48,892 max (inclusive of shift allowance)

  • Norman shift pattern is 12hr days/12hrs nights on a Monday-Friday rota, with 26.5 days holiday plus statutory holidays
