Role description
To co-ordinate the working of the forming department to achieve maximum quality output within budget and specification according to the production plan.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee set-up of machines and forehearth glass conditioning at the start of a job to ensure production performance is optimised.
- Monitor production performance and delegate to others to correct problems and improve performance
- Diagnose and solve serious production problems which cannot be dealt with by subordinates.
- Make recommendations to ensure that all production schedules are achieved and all details corrected.
- Liaise with managers across the plant to resolve quality issues and improve process performance
- Report on production performance to support decision making and to identify ways in which performance can be improved.
- Participate in Job On Job Off meetings to ensure that jobs are right before they go back into production
- Analyse production performance and plan ahead to improve the performance of future jobs.
- Develop new jobs from trial to full production
- Ensure that production is manned with sufficient skilled staff within established manning levels across shifts.
- Take responsibility for the implementation of Health, Safety and Hygiene Regulations, Procedures and Working Practices.
Required skills / qualifications:
Managing a team
- At least 5 years’ experience of managing manufacturing processes in the glass industry
- Understanding of the customer and quality impact of production decisions
- Risk Assessments
- In depth understanding of forming processes
- Medium to long term planning skills.
- PC Skills
- NVQ III Glass Container Manufacture
- Lean Six Sigma Training
- 8D/5Y
- Coaching skills
