Role description: 

The Forming Supervisor supervises hourly union employees for one shift of the forming department. This role ensures the shift is engaged in the manufacturing of glass containers to ensure customer requirements are met. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Establish and maintain a proactive safety environment which includes: good housekeeping, constant awareness of injury risks, and always striving for zero accidents 

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, with other departments, and with the employees; further, establish and develop labor relations utilizing sound management principles 

  • Maintain timely and accurate records such as attendance, production, quality, training, and discipline 

  • Monitor production efficiencies and quality regularly during the shift and provide corrective action plans with employees while maintaining accurate communications with appropriate departments  

  • Comply with environmental and food safety standards as set forth in plant policies and programs within the departmental responsibilities 

 

Minimum skills / qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

  • Five (5) years of experience in glass manufacturing with an emphasis on the forming process 

  • Prior experience with mold repair, machine repair, and job changes 

  • Excellent communication skills  

  • Proficient organizational, analytical, and planning skills 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial, high-risk work environment 

  • Ability to work outside of regular work hours 

  • Ability to prioritize work and have a sense of urgency 

  • Ability to travel up to 5% 

 

Preferred skills / qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline 

  • Eight (8) years of experience in glass manufacturing with an emphasis on the forming process 

  • One (1) year of supervisory experience 

  • Prior experience working within a unionized work environment 

  • Prior experience with the plant's forming process (i.e. press, blow-and-blow, etc.)
