Purpose of the Role:

Reporting to the Chief Logistics Officer, the Director of Distribution's main priority is to enhance Ardagh’s distribution network and use influence to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role has full ownership of distribution performance while ensuring customer satisfaction by balancing service and cost.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ownership and Direction of Distribution teams and activities to ensure timely, available, and ship ready finished goods inventory (key strategic and operational role). 
  • Direct NC Mega Warehouse Activities (AMP Only)
  • SAP/Distribution Systems co-lead on behalf of Corporate Distribution – direct, upgrade, test, train, and execute change management within Distribution. 
  • Dotted line relationship with plant shipping/warehouse managers; Director’s level interaction with schedulers, production planning, sales can, quality tech service, Finance, others as appropriate.
  • Direct activities of Warehouse Logistics & Inventory Control toward strategic evaluation, qualification, and approval of all new finished goods distribution platforms, reselect, and repack locations/operations that are added to the Ardagh supply chain.  This demands technical support for any plant or warehouse personnel that are unable to complete shipping process.   
  • Direct, develop, and maintain monthly financial reporting on External Warehouse spend – responsible for creating weekly, monthly, and YTD cost variance report vs. budget.  Must have the ability to provide accurate breakout by category impact. 
  • Work jointly with Transportation to develop Warehouse and Transportation annual budget. 

 

Knowledge/ Skills/ Experience:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Business from an accredited college or university,  with a focus on Supply Chain, Procurement or Logistics prefferably. 
  • 10+ years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, Distribution, or procurement would provide strong negotiation skills necessary to succeed in this position (highly preferred) 
  • 5+ years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, Distribution, or procurement would provide strong negotiation skills necessary to succeed in this position. 
  • Working knowledge of distribution principles and experience working with 3PL warehouse providers and labor pools.
  • Must be able to collaborate with customer supply chain optimization initiatives without sacrificing service or cost position. 
  • Travel 25-50%
  • Experience working in high volume manufacturing environments, preferable commodities like glass or aluminum bev-can. 
  • Additional certifications in lean, six sigma, continuous improvement, supply chain or logistics are desirable.
