Role Description:

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, is responsible for quality, cost and efficiency of shipping/receiving transactions, coordination of all incoming and outgoing materials, and production scheduling while maintaining inventory control in accordance with the Ardagh Group business plan.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine work assignments, shipping requirements and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Ensure efficient product scheduling of lines to maintain correct inventories and client deliverables.
  • Coordinate internal and external storage of cans and supplies.
  • Work closely with client representatives to ensure customer service satisfaction.
  • Analyse service failures/issues and implement performance processes to enhance future service delivery.
  • Evaluate forecasts/establish inventory levels for blackout periods.
  • Work with vendors to resolve any supply issues/conflicts.
  • Direct supervision of shipping supervisor and hourly personnel.
  • Direct personnel including scheduling, policy and procedure administration, training and documentation in all areas of responsibility.
  • Execute safety policies and practices and provide training, minimizing risk to personnel.
  • Anticipate/Plan for raw material needs – Order/Scheduling of raw material deliveries.
  • Organize and facilitate both physical tagged inventory and cycle count inventory.
  • Participate in the removal of non-hazardous material from the plant.
  • Effectively maintain the perpetual inventory on all items, incoming and outgoing.
  • Communicate and motivate personnel to maintain and improve personnel performance through listening skills, meeting skills, appraisals, progressive discipline, goal setting and quality practices.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to address and resolve personnel issues.
  • Internal and external communications, as needed, 24 hours a day to ensure proper operation of every aspect of the operation.
  • Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP’s, HACCP Principles and Food Safety Standard.
  • Provide coverage back-up for other production roles
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.



  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven ability to hold direct reports accountable
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in addition to outside customers
  • Working knowledge of inventory controls
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to effectively plan and execute complex scheduling needs with short and long-term focus
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Applications). Advanced level with excel
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • College Degree or equivalent experience in warehouse management
  • Five years’ experience in shipping receiving in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Two years of management experience in manufacturing
  • Experience working in a union environment
