Purpose of the role:

Manages R&D/ metal lightweighting, down-gauging and/or process improvement projects to achieve the desired technical objectives, and maintain projet budget directives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops the project plan for all key departmental projects around metal light-weighting, down-gauging, new product designs, and process improvement. 
  • Manages the key departmental projects through all phases from idea conception to full plant rollout and commercialization. 
  • Writes the CARs and enures that the timelines and budget targets are met or exceeded for the key department projects. 
  • Identifies potential can and/ or end lightweighting opportunities. 
  • Provides engineering capital estimates to the business for can and/or end modifications. 
  • Provides technical support to technical licensees in teh areas of metal cost reduction, technical documentation and product problem resolution. 
  • Support Marketing programs to develop new products that meet customer requirements and top line growth targets. 
  • Execute Development Engineering Department Goals. 

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the packaging industry
  • BS in a Scientific or engineering discipline
  • Strong project management skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal/teamwork skills 
  • Working knowledge of can making technology 
  • Can and End making process expertise
  • Excellent verbal and written skills 
  • Structured problem-solving skills 
  • Minitab and basic statistics 
  • Microsoft Office (word, Excel, Project) 
  • Working kmowledge of process capability studies 
  • Design of experiments experience 
  • Failure Mode Effect Analysis-design and process 
  • Good at follow up and performing detailed work 
  • Project risk analysis and the ability to make appropriate decisions under pressure 
  • SAP capability for project spending and tracking 
  • Financial basics for CAR preparation 
  • Greenbelt/ Blackbelt skill set desirable 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% as needed

The anticipated base annual salary range for this role is between $108,700 and $163,100 per year.  This role is bonus eligible. The bonus incentive program is based on company meeting or exceeding targets. Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate and is only applicable for roles that are based out of Illinois. The final salary will be determined after considering relevant factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, experience, and work location, where appropriate.
