Feeder Specialist Job Description

 

Experience & Technical Skills

• 5 years experience as a Feeder Specialist

• Managing forehearths

• Knowledge of combustion systems: PSR, Sorg, Emhart

• Managing spout changes

• Managing preventive maintenance

• Understanding burners, sizing, orifice plates, piping sizes, air/gas ratios, and forehearth maintenance

• Understanding safety protocols for each process

• Troubleshooting and repair of hot end machinery

• Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems

• Knowledge of hand tools and power tools

• Ability to read blueprints

• Understanding forehearth glass conditioning and proper temperature profiles

• Working knowledge of ACSI forehearth control program

• Ability to build gob shapes per process requirements

 

Job Function

• Maintain all forehearths and feeders to optimize reliability and efficiency.

• Ensure all ceramics and necessary variable equipment are rebuilt and available for each shop.

• Work with tank managers to achieve optimal feeder conditioning and drop shape for improved weight control and loading.

• Complete quarterly forehearth, feeder mechanism, tube drive, and shear mechanism PM’s.

 

Qualifications & Duties

• Performs job changes and set‑ups for forehearths and shear cut (drop shape).

• Performs all ceramics changes and orifice ring replacements.

• Maintains usable spares for needles, orifice rings, and all ceramics.

• Assists in the installation of forehearths and related equipment.

• Determines causes of breakdowns and assists in their prevention.

• Notifies supervisor of any recurring machine or parts failure or damage.

• Disassembles, repairs, and adjusts related equipment.

• Ensures that related equipment is properly lubricated.

• Performs preventative maintenance on forehearths, feeders, and shear mechanisms.

• Maintains inventory of machine parts and related equipment in storeroom.

• Inspects and maintains all forehearth equipment (port valves, burners, cooling tiles, etc.).

• Maintains safety and good housekeeping using proper cleaning tools.

• Strokes port valves and sets optimal gas ratios during PM work or as needed.

• Maintains loading, shearing, shear water systems, and shear blade setups.

• Housekeeping of forehearth platforms, shop, and gas trains.

• Performs other work as required by supervisor.

 

Requirements

• Must be able to work in extreme heat.

• Must have good attendance record.

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

• Must be able to read and write English.

• Must have a good work performance record.
