The Millwright makes tools, dies, machine parts or other equipment required for production or maintenance.  Rebuild, repair or overhaul types of can manufacturing and other types of equipment or machine parts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine most efficient setup and operation of machine tools taking into consideration type of material, tolerances, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool speeds and feeds.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work from verbal or written instructions or parts to be copied or fitted to plan setup and operation on types of basic or specialized machine tools.
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work and using full range of precision measuring and gauging tools, perform required inspection before, during and after machining.
  • Perform welding and brazing as required.
  • Use machinist hand tools.  
  • Exhibit a thorough knowledge of mechanical principles involved in repair and overhaul work including timing, synchronizing and aligning the mechanical action so that, under power, the assemblies are mechanically coordinated.
  • Set up can manufacturing and other equipment, under power, testing for mechanical difficulties, tracing to their source and correcting.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance tasks as directed, including those related to building, machinery and as a support service to production.
  • Perform initial set up and try-out of new tooling, noting tool operation and necessary modifications, rework inspection and repair in production machinery.  Remove and install production dies as assigned and keep them in repair.
  • Maintain production tooling by replacement and grinding worn tools such as rings and punches.  Inspect work, record disbursement of tools and recommend purchase of necessary stock and supplies.
  • Refer unusual or critical needs to supervisor.
  • Install and/or change the layout of machines and mechanical equipment in a plant; layout and assemble as necessary, conforming to building codes and similar specifications. 
  • Perform duties such as dismantling, moving, installing or repairing shafting, conveyors, hoists and other equipment. Use measuring devices in constructing machine foundations and installing machines and equipment in correct position.
  • Perform metal forming, welding, brazening, guard work, and sheet metal fabrication and installation.  Maintain duct work cleaning and repairing as required.
  • Perform repair and maintenance work on industrial and small motorized equipment with gas, diesel, propane and electrical motors.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials needed for new work and lays out work and material to be used; estimates completion time, requisitions materials required.  Maintain an inventory of standard machining items.
  • Operate machining equipment and assist production as directed.

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Conventional machining experience and journeyman card required.
  • Candidate must have minimum 3 years’ experience in related job, preferably in high-speed manufacturing.
  • Good mechanical/mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to understand tolerances.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and specifications.
  • Must be flexible to perform a variety of assignments.
  • An ability to work a 5-2 or 4/3 shift schedule with 12-hour days/nights.
  • Skill in the operation of machine tools and the use of precision measuring devices.
  • Ability to read and work from sketches, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Use precision measuring devices such as height gauges, micrometers, vernier and dial indicators.
  • Must be familiar with and understand OHSA machine safety standards and demonstrated safety record, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) practices.
  • Familiar with Personal Protective Equipment
  • Mechanically inclined; familiar with hand tools
  • Able to stand for a long duration of time, more than 8 hours a day
  • Able to bend over and rotate body repeatedly
  • Able to lift 50 pounds floor to waist
  • Ability to squat for 2+ minutes at a time
  • Able to move wrists for fine movements
  • Able to push/pull 100+ of static force
  • Exposure to heat, cold, vibrations, odors/fumes, and loud noise
